Learners Group

In 2006 John Clay started a learners group for the absolute beginners who came along wanting to join our junior band.

Our group now has 10 young musicians aged between 5 and 10 years old.  They took part in their first concert last November which was the association’s inaugural Patron’s concert held in Brighouse with guest Alan Morrison (Principal Cornet and now Musical Director of the Brighouse and Rastrick Band).

The group performed two pieces and did very well for their first time in public.

In March 2007 they took part in the Robertshaw Music Festival small ensemble class, which is held each year at Bingley Grammar School and they were awarded a merit.

On the 19th May they are competing in the Golcar Band, Junior Band Contest.  The contest this year is featuring a section for small training bands.  Clifton junior band will also be taking part in the junior band section where we are hoping to do a ‘hat trick’ winning for the third year in succession.

If anyone is interested in coming along to the learners group, they practice on Sunday mornings 9.00 – 10.15a.m.
